Why Should I File a Complaint With the Better Business Bureau (BBB)?

When you have a problem with a company and need help resolving your problem, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) can be a great place to seek help.

The BBB is a private organization that provides consumers with information on BBB accredited businesses, dispute resolution procedures, the ability to file a complaint against a BBB accredited business, and information on consumer scams and advocacy.

The BBB has a searchable database of BBB accredited businesses that consumers can search and find detailed information on those businesses. The BBB has a strict set of standards that each accredited business must follow along with agreeing to participate in certain complaint resolution procedures. The failure of a business to follow their rules can result in them losing their accreditation.

Many BBB accredited businesses have a strong incentive to timely and appropriately deal with consumer complaints in order to keep a clean record and not lose their accreditation.

So when you have a problem with a company, you should search the BBB database to see if the company is BBB accredited. If you find the business and it shows that they are accredited, then you can file a complaint against the company with the BBB to try and get what you want.

Filing a complaint through the BBB can sometimes save you a tremendous amount of time. Now there will be those companies that do not care about their status with the BBB and you will have to follow another route to get a response to your complaint.

Although, the simple complaint filing process and no cost submission make this option a great place to start. You can visit the Better Business Bureau national web site at www.bbb.org for more information.
